February 2011 Trip

The Village School

Painted all the desks and chairs

Held the annual fun day and Prefects Day

Awarded the Sarath de Mel Memorial prizes

Agreed to provide band uniforms

Agreement to paint the school playground

Fund extra lessons for one extra student

Provided paint and materials for new murals

Provided 140 new school uniforms & pairs of shoes

Supplied new cricket bats and volleyballs

Got a quote to complete the remaining mesh work to secure the school

Agreed to buy a new keyboard for the school band

Set up a monthly payment to restock the First Aid kit, provide cleaning materials and pay for the electricity bill

Agreed to fund 2 new secure cupboards

Agreed to fund repairs to the water tank and taps and to look at redeveloping the rear of the school and provide security lights


The Fishing Village


Funded repairs for a three-wheeler

Provided an interest free micro loan to fund new sardine fishing nets

Held the annual village cricket match

Funded additional educational classes and healthcare for people in the village

Provided money for a coconut trolley


Orphanage


Provided 80 girls with their only day out

Funded training for 4 students to undergo Nursery school teaching

Continued to provide assistance towards vocational studies and band tutor


Village Nursery


Provided 22 new pairs of shoes

Handed out cuddly toys and clothes

Agreed to fund additional classes for the teachers’ children


Jungle Nursery


Provided 45 new uniforms and pairs of shoes

Provided educational books

Supplied craft materials and stationery


Slumdogs


Agreed to provide funding for food until July 2011

Individual Cases & Clinic


Continued support and funding for the medical clinic

Handed out donated clothing

Provided a new sewing machine for 4 ladies



In February 2011, we visited Sri Lanka for 3 weeks to get an update on our projects.  It was a very busy trip but really productive and we now support two additional projects: the Jungle Nursery and the Slumdogs of Colombo.


It also gave us the opportunity to see the new school roof in place which we were able to complete thanks to all those who donated to the Raise the Roof appeal.
